____________________________________________________________________________________________ 3DTRAINS SKIN INSTALLATION & FILE NOTES EMD F-Unit v4.2b File Date: 09.21.05 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ INSTALLATION & FILE NOTES If you're reading this, then you've already installed your set. By default, the installation assumes the location of MSTS to be "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator" - If MSTS is installed in another location, then you should have selected this during install. This is a reskin for users of our v4.0 F-Unit sets. The installation will place a basic set of AB models into a 3DTrains_FUnits__Skin folder. The included files should not conflict with an existing set of the same road. However, if problems occur, please feel free to drop me a note - I will do my best to help you through. Information regarding distribution of your own skis is contained below in the DISTRIBUTION GUIDELINES section. Train Simulator | |-- Trains | |-- Consists |-- Trainset | |-- 3DTrains_FUnits_ _Skin |-- Cabview |-- Options 3DTrains also offers ABBA sets with authentic cab and sounds. For pricing and availability, as well as other 3DTrains locomotives and addons, please visit our website: www.3dtrains.com ____________________________________________________________________________________________ DISTRIBUTION GUIDELINES See DISTRIBUTION.TXT. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ LARGE TEXTURE SUPPORT The included locomotives use 1024 x 1024 for the main images. If you're using an older video card, or one that doesn't support 1024 x 1024 (ie: 3DFX Voodoo), then you'll need to convert the A1_MAIN.ACE and B1_MAIN.ACE from 1024 x 1024 to 512 x 512 pixels using a paint program such as "Paint Shop Pro" by Corel. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ PAINTING Not included are the needed templates for painting your own locos. You can however, download these templates from the 3DTrains web site (v4.0 templates available shortly). The included locomotives contain many parts which can be either displayed/hidden depending on the use of alpha channels. Hiding parts is done by painting the alpha layer for that part black, while displaying the part requires the section in the alpha channel to be white. AVAILABLE ALPHA PARTS: Below is a brief listing of the available parts that can be hidden with alpha channels. For the specific location of the parts, please refer to the v3.0 paint templates (not included): PARTS ACE FILES NOTES -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Animated Flags A1_FLAG Batch files included to change automatically - Cab Side Windows A1_ALPHA Adjust for up, mid-way, or down - Engineer A1_ENGINEER Batch files included to change automatically - Fireman A1_FIREMAN Batch files included to change automatically - Grab Irons A1_MAIN - Lower Headlight A1_MAIN DO NOT use with Center Numberboard - Marker Lights A1_ALPHA/B1_ALPHA - Rear Diaphragm A1_MAIN/B1_MAIN - Rear Wrecking Lugs A1_MAIN/B1_MAIN - Reverse Light A1_ALPHA/B1_MAIN - Side Skirts A1_MAIN/B1_MAIN The following is a list of the alpha parts that have been removed from the v4 demo. These parts may still be present, but are not easily separated: - Cab Wind Wings Not Available - Center Numberboard Not Available - F3 Dynamic Brake Vents Not Available - F7 Dynamic Brake Fans Removal Not Recommended - F3 Chicken Wire Grilles Not Available - F7 Horizontal Grilles Removal Not Recommended - Front Wrecking Lugs Not Available - Side Visors Not Available - Speed Recorder Removal Not Recommended - Rear Winterization Hatch Not Available - Steam Generator Not Available ANIMATED FLAGS, ENGINEER AND FIREMAN:: If you don't wish to use animated flags, engineer or fireman objects, you can set the alpha channel of the respective ACE files to black. This is especially useful when using the locos as trailing units or if the activity doesn't require their use ("extra" flags for example). The second A-units included with your set already have the 2nd set of flags and crew hidden. For information regarding the use of alpha channels, please refer to the documentaion of the paint program you're using. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ VERSION HISTORY v4.2b 11.15.04 - Minor mapping issues corrected v4.2a 10.29.04 - Remodeled Hyatt journals and speed recorder (see file notes above) - Added square and sloped journal boxes to the list of available parts - Modified bogie textures to suit v4.2 10.20.04 - New models to reflect differences between various phases - New fans and fan textures - Adjusted interior parts - Modified crew textures - Changed mapping for top headlight - Rescaled lower headlight - Additional minor model and texture adjustments - Changed cabview aliasing v4.1c 10.04.04 - Minor adjustments to models and textures v4.1b.sp 09.30.04 - Corrected consist file in set #1 - Minor texture adjustments v4.1b 09.25.04 - Miscellaneous shape and texture adjustments v4.1a 09.23.04 - Corrected shape name in CNR SuperPack 6541R ENG file v4.1 09.21.2004 - Remodeled nose and headlight assembly - Corrected F9 by removing overhangs - Fixed names F9B ENG files - Minor texture corrections v4.0d 09.17.2004 - FT sets provided to 3D Train Stuff for "Vintage Trains Over Tehachapi" expansion pack v4.0c 09.15.2004 - Corrected SMS assignment v4.0b 09.10.04 - Minor adjustments to models - Corrected horns on ATSF #3 set - Various texture enhancements - Corrected cab resolution assignment - Corrected dynamic brake function v4.0a 09.04.04 - Fixed B-Unit alpha textures - Replaced SMS and horn files v4.0 09.02.2004 - Various enhancements to B-Unit - A-Unit texture adjustment - Rendered new cabviews - Bob Boudoin 4.7 physics - Final documentation and installation files v4b-Beta 08.28.04 - Additional ATSF parts added to test maximum polys allowed - Optimized image and shape files - Various model enhancements including LODs v4a-Beta 06.19.04 - Adjusted side panels to correctly match F7 (thanks to Herb Kelsey for the info) - Removed "stray" polys from plow that gave the appearance of mis-mapped parts v4-Beta 06.16.04 - New high definition truck detail - Animated fans - Miscellaneous details v3.0f 06.01.03 - GM&O B-Units Updated v3.0e 06.01.03 - Fixed fan alpha assignment v3.0d 11.29.02 - Improved LOD for A-units (250m and 500m) - Fixed vestibule color and stripes on main images - Recompressed models to save as-installed HD space (saved 16Mb!) v3.0c 09.19.02 - Modified carbody filters for A and B-units - Added alpha panel to 2nd filter opening on B-unit - Miscellaneous modifications and additions - Normal texture support is now a download option v3.0b 09.17.02 - Fixed material ID for center number shield v3.0a 09.17.02 - Fixed texture mapping for wipers - Added Scott Miller's grille artwork - Added option to use F3-style chicken wire grilles - Various parts added to B-unit - Updated textures for both A and B-units v3.0 09.10.02: - New model from the ground-up (check it out!) - Large texture support (install option) - Fixed ugly moire pattern on grilles (thanks to Scott Miller) - Animated "extra" flags (not used after mid-1960's) - these can be hidden with alpha - Engineer and fireman figures - these can be hidden with alpha ____________________________________________________________________________________________ v4.2b
