Protype sounds for MSTS first generation non-turbocharged GP and SD units by Ron Furto. Uses custom sounds from real locomotives. I started with the default Dash 9 eng.sms file then added several new streams in the SL5 section. All outside engine prime mover, traction motor and dynamic brake sounds are new custom sounds. A few other sounds like the sand and bell are aliased to the default GP38. You will notice that the engine does not rev-up when you advance to the first notch just like the prototype. These sounds are correct for GP7,GP9,GP18,SD7,SD9,SD18, or any of the Geep or SD rebuilds such as GP8,GP10,GP11,CF7,SD20, etc. The inside cab prime mover sounds are also custom. Most other inside cab sounds are aliased to the default GP38 but I did add some custom air brake sounds. No more annoying compressor in the cab. I made the inside engine sounds a little quieter than the outside engine sounds which are louder and more robust. So if you are used to the very loud default cab sounds than these sounds will seem quite different. The horn is from a ATSF GP20. LEGAL NOTICE These sound files were made to be played in Microsoft Train Simulator only. They are placed in the train-sim.com libary as freeware. These files may not be redistributed as freeware or payware. Use these files at your own risk. These files should in no way harm your computer but if for some bizarre reason they do, I am not responsible. Also if you ruin something because you played these sounds to loud, again I am not responsible. By downloading and installing these files you agree to this. INSTALLATION After unziping you will find two folders, one labeled "SOUND" and one labeled "AI". Just copy the "SOUND" folder into any engine you choose but first remove any existing sound folder if there already is one. Next open the engine file with wordpad. If you are new at this I would highly recommend that you make a back up copy of the engine file first. In the engine file scroll down past the lighting section and find the line for the engine sound. Change that line to read "GP7eng.sms". Then scroll down to near the bottom and find the line for the cab sound. Change that line to read "GP7cab.sms". Also while in the engine file look for this line "DieselEngineMaxRPMChangeRate" and change the number on this line to 40. Save your changes when you close. OR You may want to place this "SOUND" folder in your common sound folder and alias any engine to it. You can find information at train-sim.com on how to alias engine sound if you need it. OPTIONAL AI SOUND The AI folder in this zip file includes one GP7 sound clip which will be played in AI traffic from any engine using this GP7eng.sms. Open your main train simulator folder and you will find a sound folder there. Copy and paste or drag and drop this AI sound clip into that main sound folder. Do not copy and paste the whole AI folder just the sound clip inside. Thats it. Close and enjoy your new engine sounds.
