 	Description (

"This model is patterned after two gasoline-electric motorcars purchased from General Electric by the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad for $26,000.00 each. The motorcars, sometimes called doodlebugs, were built in September 1912, and were given the road numbers 102 and 103. They weighed 51 tons and were 70 feet long. Power was produced by a 175 hp GM16C1 V-8 gasoline engine connected to a type DT generator, which in turn powered two GE type 205 one hundred horsepower traction motors mounted on each of the forward axles."+
	"\n\n"+

"The following description is from the book THE NORTH ARKANSAS LINE, by James R. Fair Jr. -
Their exteriors were Pullman green with gold lettering. There was a brass railed observation platform on the rear. There were drop level side doors, and the cars had a curved nose that was suggestive of the competitor, McKeen Motor Cars. The interiors were finished in mahagony, and upholstery was frizette plush in the two passenger compartments, and Spanish leather in the smoking compartment. The seats were unusually long and could accommodate three persons when necessary. In this way the normal seating capacity of 62 could be expanded to 85."+
        "\n\n"+

"The body and trucks were manufactured by the Wason Manufacturing Company of Springfield, Mass. The control equipment was standard GE streetcar controls (type K controller, CP-27 air compressor), although matching the load of the gasoline engine to the load of the electrical components took a virtuoso performance on the part of the operator, and many motormen couldn't master it. By failing to match the generator load and engine output precisely, an operator could easily overload and damage one or the other. This control problem is said to be a major factor in causing GE to exit the rail motorcar field in 1917."+
        "\n\n"+

"Motorcar #103 was wrecked and destroyed in 1914, and a replacement car (2nd #103) was ordered from GE in October, 1914. Both motorcars were traded to the Midland Valley Railroad in 1927, with #102 becoming M-7, and #103 becoming M-8."+
