EMD SD40T-2 'Tunnel Motor' diesel - Southern Pacific # 8365 - LEAD UNIT for Microsoft Train Simulator January 18, 2005 Original Model by: Diesel-West Copyright 2004 - Diesels-West www.dieselswest.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT: You must have the 'DASH9' and 'GP38' folders in the 'TRAINSET' folder with all of their sound files intact so that your new locomotive can use some of those sounds. If you altered these folders, you will need to reinstall Microsoft Train Simulator. If you want to check it, it should be here> ../Train Simulator/Trains/TRAINSET/DASH9/SOUNDS and ..GP38/SOUNDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation: 1.Extract the folders from this .zip into a temporary location. 2.Copy and paste,or click and drag, the locomotive folder(s) into your 'TRAINSET' folder > Programs/Microsoft Games/Train Simulator/trains/TRAINSET directory. 3.Build your consist using the MSTS Activity editor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADDITONAL FEATURES LIGHTS The gyration of the nose mounted gyralites for the DRGW SD40T-2 could be started and stopped by the engineer. The gyralite was typically activated for increased warning when the train was coming to a crossing, and then turned off. If you would rather have these capabilities, instead of the classic dim, and bright settings, there is an alternate '.eng' file in the 'altlights' folder that will do this. Move the old engine file, and save it as a back-up, then copy and paste the engine file from the 'altlights' folder, into the locomotive folder. You will be able to switch from stationary bright lights(dim setting) to bright lights with the gyralite movement(bright setting). HORN SOUNDS Two alternative horn sounds are included. They can be found in the 'Sound' folder of the lead unit #5360 CLOSE-UP OF SD40T-2 CAB CONTROLS - 'CabControls.jpg' Cabviews in MSTS are unfortunately limited to a max screen resolution of 1024 by 768. Which means the cabview image cannot exceed 1024 x 768 pixels. This makes it impossible to have both a realistic size and angle of controls, and still be able to read all the numbers on the control stand. Everytime we have tried to achieve it, we end up with an unrealistic looking cabview, similar to the MSTS GP38. We opted for realism. Since much of our SD40T-2 cab controls cannot be read, we decided to make a close-up image of our cabview ('CabControls.jpg'). It doesn't show the brake stand because there is nothing to read on those controls. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAILING UNITS VS. LEAD UNITS If you attempt to run a TU locomotive as the lead loco, the simulation will not load properly. That's why it has a unique name in the activity editor (i.e., 'TU SP #7505') so that you don't confuse them with other locos in the locomotive list. TU locos work great as idle units on a siding etc., and will throttle up when coupled by a drivable unit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Locomotive information can be found by clicking the 'details' tab in Train Simulator These locomotives come with the 1024x1024 textures only. If you don't already have the Train Simulator update, you can get it from the website: www.microsoft.com/games/trainsim/ -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
