Model-building notes by L. W. Shell, 25 Jan 2009

Modified mass, friction, braking, and installed Bin "cushioned (!)" couplers.
Created four wagons, each using FA1, FA2, FA3, FA4.
This will allow me to see which containers are ribbed on each of the four freight animations.

Shape 1: all containers plain
Shape 2: fourth unit is ribbed
Shape 3: third unit is plain
Shape 4: 2nd and 4th units are ribbed

COTTON BELT (large, one line) on smooth side
COTTON BELT (small, two lines) on ribbed side

When making the left side match the right, do not mirror or flip images....the containers ARE however in reverse order.

Lettering in all containers is is same order. Note that the two END containers must face opposite directions (closed end outward) so that their detail lettering is reversed.

Prototype notes by L. W. Shell, 14 Feb 2009

THIS VERSION OF STAC-PAC-2 IS A PRELIMINARY VERSION, FOR RESEARCH AND TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. IT IS NOT FOR REDISTRIBUTION, REPAINTING, OR UPLOADING.

SP, SSW, and ATSF used their own flats to carry these containers. SP and SSW flats were boxcar red or mineral red. The color of ATSF flats is currently unknown, but ATSF used both yellow and mineral red flatcars of this length. Other railroads with these containers used TrailerTrain flatcars with TTSX reporting marks.

Prototype flat cars numbers include
SP 517303 and 517330
SSW 80331, 80334 and 80339
ATSF 705001
TTSX 803092 and 803172

Ribbed containers were made by Gunderson, and were perhaps used only by Cotton Belt (and lettered with the "two lines" small letters version of "COTTON BELT").

Smoothside containers were made by W&K (Whitehead and Kales) and others, and were painted in a variety of road names, including SP, SSW, FEC, MDT, IC, DRGW, MILW and RI.

MILW containers were yellow; DRGW containers were orange; most others were various shades of mineral red. IC's verti-Pacs were orange with round black and white logo (not split-rail); We speculate that their Stac-Pacs were similar.

These cars would be seen in trains with older open autoracks, Verti-Pacs, auto parts boxcars, and similar rolling stock. The Stac-Pac and Verti-Pac experiments were concluded by the mid-1970s and the cars rebuilt.

CONTENTS:
Seven flat cars ATSF 705001, SP 517003, SP 517330, SSW 80331, SSW 80334, TTSX 803172, TTSX 803092. Painting and lettering for SP, SSW, and TTSX cars is reasonably protoptypical; the others are somewhat speculative, lacking photos for reference.

Ten Freight Animations FA-1, FA-2, FA-3, FA-4, FA-1A, FA-2A, FA-M, FA-ATSF, FA-MDT, FA-M2.
Freight animations FA-1, FA-2 and FA-4 are reasonably prototypical; FA-M, FA-3 and FA-1A are somewhat speculative; the others include fictional elements.

Each car can have only one freight animation, but you are free to mix and match by editing the freightanimation section fo the wag file.

Bonus materials:
George Mathews has graciously included two "landed" containers and a container loader. (Note: not included with the preliminary version). These models can be placed onto the route of your choice.....but I'm not the person to supply you with instruction to do that. See various tutorials at Train-Sim or Steam4Me.
