ÿþBEW NS ES40DC Version 1

Please read this carefully all the way through before starting to install the engines.

(see note at very bottom regarding repaints / permissions)

============================================================================================================================

REQUIREMENTS (needed before attempting to install and use).

For Sound: Maple Leaf Tracks NS Engine Pack.

For Electronic Bell Sound: download zip file "MASW_Digi_Bell_v1.zip" from http://www.meanslocoworks.com/sounds.htm

For LHF Lighting: MSTS Bin required tested with Bin version 1.7.102222 (see note re LHF Lighting near the bottom of

this readme)

============================================================================================================================

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

PART 1:	ELECTRONIC BELL SOUNDS:

from http://www.meanslocoworks.com/sounds.htm download the file "MASW_Digi_Bell_v1.zip" unzip the contents to a temporary

directory, there should be three files Digi_Bell.wav, x_Digi_Bell.wav and a readme.txt. Copy the two .wav files and paste

them into the following directory (this assumes that when you purchased and set up the MLT NS engine Pack, you installed to

the default location, if not then paste files into the folder where you have it) MLT_REQUIRED\MLT_SOUNDS\NS,

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Before going any further unzip the BEW NS ES40DC Version 1 zip file named "BEW_NS_ES40DC.zip" (this download) to a temporary

folder, this will give you two folders named "NS_ES40DC_BEW" which contains all the engine files and "MLT_REQUIRED" which

contains the extra sound files needed (horns and .sms files), now follow the instructions for installing the Extra sounds and

engine files below.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

PART 2:	HORN SOUNDS:

Take the folder named "MLT_REQUIRED" and paste it into the MSTS TRAINS/TRAINSET folder, you will get up a message box that

states "This Folder already contains a folder named 'MLT_Required', it is safe to click YES,the same thing will then happens

regarding the folder 'MLT_SOUNDS' again it is safe to click YES, and once more the warning will pop up for the folder named

'NS' click YES. If you have previously installed the BEW NS Dash 9,s you may get a overwrite file warning re the horn wav files

let it do so as both engine sets use the same horn sounds, but different .sms files.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

PART 3: CABVIEW:

The cabview is included and gives the correct cab for a Norfolk Southern Es40DC as NS engines have a custom cab fitted in their

Gevo's, it is impossible to be able to show all the controls as well as a forward view due to the NS layout so the front view is

the user controls and the right and left views show the road ahead, it is a case of going to the forward view to alter the controls

and back to left or right to see where you are going.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

PART 4:	ENGINE SET:

from the temporary directory into which you unzipped the download copy the folder named "NS_ES40DC_BEW" to your MSTS

TRAINS/TRAINSET folder, as long as you have installed the Digi bell and Horn sounds as outlined in PART 1 and 2 above then

all you need to do is to create suitable consists using the MSTS editor or Conbuilder and enjoy.

============================================================================================================================

Please note that the engine is not faulty it has been designed to emit very little exhaust smoke in the lower speed ranges and not much

more than idling smoke in the higher ranges as per the prototype, we thought this better than some other downloads that purely just

delete the exhaust section en masse. its not perfect but workable within the limits of MSTS.

LHF Lighting and reversed running

The lighting has been arranged to give headlights and flashing ditchlights in the off position when running LHF with MSTS Bin

installed,

there is a custom LHF cabview, it is not prototypically accurate but rather is there to give a view that is not just the forward view

facing the wrong way, it needs MSTS Bin to work correctly. a small part of the LHF cabview is from the freely available CP AC4400

provided as part of the MLT KHP demo route at www.cpr.ca and the dial needles are from the default MSTS SD40-2 & side view from the

default GP38-2.

If you do not have MSTS Bin installed it is good to install it as it helps the playability of MSTS in a huge way, if you do not have it

installed for whatever reason you will get errors if you try to run the engines, to stop the error messages you will need to edit each

and every one of the eight .eng files as follows (this assumes you already know how to edit eng files). Open up each file in wordpad

and scroll down to the lighting section labelled as

Comment ( Rear Lights for LHF operation switch in off position )

in each of the 4 lighting statements that follow look for the line that reads

				Unit ( 5 )

and change it to read

				Unit ( 3 )

that will cure the problem, if you ever install MSTS Bin at a later date just reverse the process

A NOTE REGARDING THE LHF Lighting: to operate the lights when driving LHF after using BIN to change to looking rearward, set the lighting

switch to the off position, without BIN there will not be any lights when driving LHF.

These engines will not work very well if at all on low end systems especially if MSTS Bin is not installed.

Thats it! the BEW team hope you will all enjoy the new set.

Other Cabviews and sounds, you are free to use whichever cabviews and sounds that you prefer but please note you are on your own,

if they do not work please seek help from the provider of those that you choose to use,

any queries surrounding problems with the setup or operation of the set please post for help on the Mophouse forum where this set was

downloaded from, do not post requests for help unless you have faithfully read and followed the instructions provided above and the

NS Engine pack is installed in the default location.

it would not be possible without the excellent original model from Maple Leaf Tracks. Many thanks to Andy Hockin of Maple Leaf
